Most parents are anxiously concern about their baby health issues. This is indeed a right thing to do as baby health issues do determine the state of the baby’s health when he grows up. Baby health issues – digestive disorder
Digestive disorder is very common among all other baby health issues. This is mainly due to their in-matured gastrointestinal tract. Digestive disorder includes colic, regurgitation and constipation. These baby health issues are normally mild and easily overcome by dietary change or accompanied by appropriate drugs prescribed by the pediatrician.
Regurgitation
Regurgitation in babies means the expulsion of food by the baby after the baby has eaten. Very common among newborn babies, these are not serious baby health issues and will not adversely affect the child’s development. Things that you can do to avoid regurgitation is:
1. Do not rush when feeding the baby.
2. Use a slow flowing anti-colic nipple when feeding so that the baby would suck in less air and reduce the risk of regurgitation
3. Do not let the baby lie down flat immediately after feeding. Elevate the head of the baby crib to about 15 to 20 cm
4. Burp the baby after feeding
If regurgitation persists and accompanied with other symptoms, do consult you pediatrician.
Colic.
This baby health issues are not serious and babies normally overcome this by the age of 3 to 4 months. But colicky babies are difficult to handle as they tend to cry when they have abdominal pain with gas and bloating. This baby health issues can be handled by:
1. Use anti-colic nipple so that the baby will suck in less air when feeding.
2. Massage the baby’s abdomen gently in clockwise direction
3. Switch to lactose free baby formula as the baby could be lactose intolerant
Constipation
A baby is constipated if he could not pass stool or pass hard stool. A baby’s stool should be soft . The normal cause of this baby health issues is when the baby is introduced to solid food. Breast fed babies are more prone to constipation when solid food are introduced because their tummies are used to process easily digestible mother’s milk.
To overcome this baby health issues, try giving one or two ounces of diluted fruit juice such as grape or prune juice twice daily. But always remember to consult your pediatrician before introducing any new food.
Baby health issues – Fever
It is quite normal for babies to have fever. A fever means that the baby is fighting against an infection in his body. This baby health issues need proper attention as high fever can be quite dangerous. A temperature reading doesn’t indicate that the fever is serious. It is the age of the baby that determines the seriousness of the fever. Fever is more serious for a baby under 3 months old. It is best to consult your pediatrician should your baby has a fever.
Baby health issues – Cough.
You should consult a doctor for this baby health issues especially if your baby is less than 3 months old, breathing rapidly, wheezing, or having a fever. It is not advisable to give your baby over-the-counter cough medication.
Baby health issues – Diarrhea
Babies tend to poop more often and they usually do it each time after feeding. And the stool is usually soft. If the stool is loser than normal, it is nothing to worry about too much. But if there is a sudden change and the stool becomes watery, then it is better to consult your pediatrician for this baby health issues.
